To all organizations,
activists and progressive women
The second commemoration of the massacre of Iranian political prisoners,
with an emphasis on the summer of 1987, is going to be held from
August 24 th to August 26th 2007 in Cologne in Germany.
In this gathering, some of the issues related to the political prisoners
are going to be discussed. One of the subjects on the agenda is
"political prisoners and women's struggles". The effective
presence of women in the history of political and social struggle,
especially during the years of revolution, has made it necessary
to deal with this subject independently.
Today the effects and presence of the women's struggle, in spite
of the chauvinistic efforts to mask and conceal the realities in
the history, is undeniable. Self-conscious, fighter and emancipated
women have left their legacy in Iran's history from pre-constitutional
monarchy to present time. In many occasions women were the first
to protest against the reactionary capitalistic governments. March
8th 1978 was an historic example of this movement in Iran.
Today it is necessary to search and inscribe the history of peoples'
struggle without the chauvinistic way of thinking. This is not possible
if the writer is not the one who has been oppressed herself. Therefore,
the planning committee of "political prisoner and women's advocacy"
group invites all- political organizations, women's activists, all
those who fight against gender apartheid and wish to establish an
equal society without race, gender and class exploitation regardless
of their organizational agenda- to actively participate in dialogues
and discussions.
To help us coordinate and consider your presentation, please send
us an outline or an article as soon as possible (no later than August
1 st 2007) to "political prisoner and women's advocacy"
group.
