Red room:
“The Cuban Five”
The workshop will show the documentary “Mission against Terror” – Spanish with English subtitles.
Sven Erik Simonsen from the Danish-Cuban Association will introduce this documentary. Then we shall discuss the struggle to free “The Cuban Five”, sharing of experience, debate on political relevance and sharing of ideas for future activities.
The Case in short: from 1959 to 2010 more than 3500 Cubans have lost their lives due to terrorist, counter revolutionary attacks. Most attacks came from Miama, Florida, USA. To protect itself Cuba had to station “ears and eyes in Miami”. Some of them were jailed by the USA, like “the Cuban Five”: Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González, Gerardo Hernández, Ramon Labanino and Réné González
“The Cuban Five” serve long and unjust prison terms for fighting terrorism. Therefore a global movement of solidarity with “The Cuban Five” exist in more than 100 countries…

“Terror Lists and the Political practice?”
- Freedom of Speech: ROJ TV tells about Danish and European attempts to close the TV-station of the Kurdish people by using the terror-legislation
- International Solidarity: The Association Rebellion (Oproer), which was sentenced for supporting terror, will focus on the continued need for international solidarity
- Criminalization of Political work in Denmark: The group AFA (Anti Fascist Action) had some of its members arrested in isolation for many weeks accused of supporting terror.
Debate: What are the consequences for the individuals and for the organizations?
How can we prevent such political attacks?

“Palestinian Women and Children in Israeli Prisons”
The Israeli authorities do not treat the Palestinians as equals. The Palestinian women, men and children – when arrested and interrogated by the Israeli authorities- are exposed to humiliation. They suffer strongly in the very small black prisons without much – if any – contact to their families.

“Legislation and Forms of Opposition”
With historic examples from political activism on the left wing during the second world war, during the sixties (Vietnam movement) and the eighties (anti-apartheid and house occupations) the workshop will focus on various forms of terror laws, administrative detention laws (loemmelpakke) and ban on masking.
Through these examples the workshop will invite to debate on to-day’ various forms of opposition and activism – on the background of increased criminalization of political activism and opposition.

The workshop will discuss the internationally well-known case of the political prisoner in USA, Mumia Abu Jamal, who has been on the death row for many years – and the international solidarity campaign.

“Persecution and Killings of Union Activists in the Philippines”
Under the counter-insurgency program Oplan Bantay Laya (Operation Freedom Watch) legal political and trade union groups are accused as communist fronts and are subject to abductions and killings by the military and police. The workshop will focus on the cases of José Maria Sison, Vincent Borja and the so called Morong 43. We recite a poem written by Jose Maria Sison during his imprisonment.

The workshop will discuss the conditions of Palestinian Prisoners in Israeli prisons: Isolation, torture and adminisrative detention. A Special focus shall be at PFLP General Secretary Ahmad Saadat who is held in long isolation in Israeli jail.

“Solidarity with Mexican Prisoners, Nationally and Internationally”
The workshop will focus on solidarity with Mexican political prisoners. Mariana Selvas was arrested in 2006 during the state repression in Atenco. While she was in prison, her mother Rosalba Gomez, who will also attend the conference, fought for years for the freedom of her daughter and other political prisoners
It could be a good idea for the participants in this workshop to see the documentary “breaking the siege”
